Jehu was the son of Zachariah and Rosa Anshin Barnes. He was of the Dunkard church. Jehu parents died from drinking from a contaminated spring when Jehu was young. Jehu lived with his fathers parents and grew up as an orphan living with anyone that would take him in. Jehu married Elizabeth Datsan Parkes on August 3, 1843.They were parents of 12 children. Six boys and six girls. Jehu and Elizabeth came to Wright county in Oct 1866 and homesteaded in Wood township. Jehu remarried after Elizabeth died in 1895. He married Dorothy Oxley. Jehu gave land for the Fairview church and cemetery. The church burned in 1924 and new one was built.
